Couple Photoshoot Ideas at Gallop Extension, Botanic Gardens Singapore

As you step into Gallop Extension in Singapore, you're immediately transported to a bygone era, where history and nature intertwine seamlessly. The first sight that captures your attention are the two stately colonial manors, Atbara and Inverturret, standing proudly amidst lush greenery. Their grand, whitewashed façades, adorned with dark timber beams, evoke the elegance and charm of Singapore's colonial past.

First opened to public in March 13 2021, Gallop extension has become a magnet for couples seeking the perfect setting for their photos. The elegance of Atbara and Inverturret, together with its lush surrounding gardens, offer countless opportunities for capturing candid, heartfelt moments. Here are some photography ideas for anyone that has been thinking about taking their photos there.

Photography Ideas

1. Inverturret

Inverturret offers a variety of stunning settings for capturing couple photography, each with its own unique charm.

First, the large field in front of Inverturret provides a spacious and open area where the manor itself becomes a majestic backdrop. This setup allows for wide-angle shots that highlight both the couple and the elegant architecture, creating a timeless and romantic atmosphere.

Secondly, the small arches lining the ground floor of the building create a picturesque corridor, perfect for intimate and framed compositions. The arches naturally draw the eye towards the couple, while also showcasing the intricate architectural details of Inverturret.

Lastly, the flights of stairs at Inverturret offer endless possibilities for creative shots. Placing either one or both partners on the stairs adds a dynamic element to the composition, allowing for playful perspectives and varied heights. Whether it’s a close-up of the couple seated together or a wider shot that captures the grandeur of the staircase, the possibilities are endless.

2. Atbara

Atbara, the smaller of the 2 manors, offer other photo opportunities that highlight the charm of Gallop Extension.

Here, the symmetrical layout of the building's facade becomes a key element in creating balanced and visually striking compositions for couple photography. I positioned the couple in each arch to frame them, creating a sense of harmony in the shot.

Additionally, the majestic tree beside Atbara offers another layer of depth for the photo. Its sprawling branches provide a natural contrast to the clean lines of the manor. There are definitely more angles I could have explored here, I will leave that to future visits.

3. Surroundings

Looking beyond the 2 grand manors, the surroundings of Gallop Extension are also highly versatile and perfect for unique photos.

The vast field that stretches across the area provides a versatile space where couples can engage in various poses, such as walking hand-in-hand, spinning, or simply enjoying a quiet moment together. The open expanse allows for wide, cinematic shots and close-up intimates.

In the middle of this field stands a grand cluster of trees that serves as a focal point for a dramatic composition. Here I captured the couple seated below its canopy sharing a moment together.

4. Final thoughts

The photos featured in this article are just the beginning of what Gallop Extension has to offer for couple photography. There are countless other opportunities waiting to be discovered, such as the various facades of the two manors, each offering its own unique backdrop and character. The charming roads leading up to Gallop Extension provide an inviting setting for romantic, candid shots. Additionally, other staircases throughout the area offer even more creative possibilities, with different angles and perspectives to explore. The more you immerse yourself in the surroundings, the more hidden gems you'll find, each contributing to a rich and diverse photo collection that captures the essence of the couple’s journey together.

Time and Outfit

For the featured shoot, the couple opted for a late morning session, but I recommend shooting early in the morning when the light is soft and the area is less crowded, providing a serene atmosphere perfect for capturing intimate moments. Outfit choices are entirely up to the couple's preference. In this shoot, dark grey and black outfits were chosen, which contrasted beautifully with the white colonial buildings. A white outfit can also work well, evoking an airy, ethereal vibe, though it may be more challenging to photograph against the bright buildings. Alternatively, fun, vibrant colors can add a playful touch, standing out against the lush greenery and the elegant architecture, bringing a lively energy to the photos.
